Request for 'name' poems

Well in this morning's post I mentioned my sister making a request for a poem for her study classes...I have also recently had a request to write a couple of poems using the full name with meanings about two young men...the request was made by the mother on Mark - the first poem -  who's best friend in Bryan of whom the second poem is...

Mark: warlike, hammer, defender
David: beloved
Berry: fortified dwelling
Mark, warlike what battles do you fight?
As a soldier of Christ – the one for truth and right
Mark, the Hammer, weapon, tool, for God’s purpose
Seeking His direction, deliverance from sin’s curse
Mark, the Defender of the simple truths you hold within
Of family and friends – within your heart not forsaken

David, beloved, named after the loved king and son
Though you are the first and he the youngest one

David, the uniquely special one, the ruddy of head
Your kindness, compassion have held you in good stead

David, song and music continually in your heart and mind
So much like David of old – best selling composer of all time

Berry, fortified dwelling, holding emotions deep in your soul
Seeking, protecting, achieving your most inner goals

Berry, the stronghold of great love and compassion
Continue your life walk following Christ in your fashion

Bryan: Noble, strong, virtuous, hill
Camarillo: Name given to the advisors of the royal court.
Latin in origin – Cama = chamber, room or court;
Rillo = regal or royal
Noble outlook, a positive approach to daily events
Noble attitude to help console and lift up your friends

Strong hope and faith – trust completely in the heavenly King
Strong voice to speak, to discourse, and of truth you do sing
Virtuous and kind and helpful when dealing with all others
Virtuous smile that brightens the day of sisters and brothers
You proclaim loud your beliefs; shine them forth from the hills
Yet you enjoy a quite time when the daily rush has been stilled
Though a descendant from advisors to the lofty and noble
You follow the divine Royal – to His way – responsible

Bryan you are a noble, strong and virtuous one
Camarillo - a wise, cherished, beloved son

I have the feeling she may ask me to do a few more of these - Yikes!

past due Mary and Martha poem

It has been awhile for my inspirations for posting on this blog...I have been writing and experiancing many things since my last posting. One of those was a Sisters Study day given by my bio-sis. on 'Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World'. She had given these classes at a weekend on the west coast and at that time had asked me to write a poem on the subject. Here is what I wrote...

We often let the cares of life
The work, the stress, fill our minds
Though our hearts may be right
For prayer and study there is no time
We get so filled up doing this and that
We forget to stop and listen – as Mary sat

We will be doing the Martha work
The caring for others, just being kind
That of the necessary we lose sight
Finding our spiritual lives in a bind
So stop going out doing this and that
Sit down to pray and listen – as Mary sat

When we put the word first in every task
The stress of the work is left behind
Our worries will be left in the past
The time to do all we will find
No longer wandering doing this and that
With joy, praying and listening – as Mary sat

Had to retype this into my collection - somehow it never made it there!!!

reflextions on the loss of loved ones

This last Friday I attended a funeral for a beloved father of three members of my church...How they morned and felt so lost - working through dealing with the relization that they would not be seeing their father again until the return of Christ and the ressurection and setting up on God's Kingdom here on earth. Having lost a beloved brother, mother and father, I can understand their grief and feelings of utter loss mingled with the comforting knowledge that the next waking moment for their loved one with be at the ressurection - the hope that we all look forward too. Here are some poems that express that love and hope...

PARENT & CHILD

You are a gift from above
In your arms I feel completely loved
From your lips come truths I had forgot
I understand life from the things you have taught
You give me hope, strength to face the next day
You correct my mistakes showing me the right way
Everyday I rejoice to watch your life unfold
You are the one who gave me a life to hold
Tic ‘2001

Dearest Daddy of them all
You have always been there strong and tall
In you Papa I have the utmost faith
That you will remind me to stay on the narrow and straight
Your knowledge of history, parenthood and the English tongue
You have instilled in me when each day is done
You show me a temperance to be not like the others
Also with patience and Godliness from all hurt I can recover
You, Papa have taught me so much of kindness and love
You are a blessing for me from our Father above
So in conclusion all I can say
You are my Papa; I would not have it any other way

Not as I will but as thou wilt
Not as I see but as thou reveal
Not as I hear but as thou speak
Not as I understand only with thy knowledge
Not as I live now only with thy grace
But in resurrection glorifying thy face

How do we each begin our days
In ignorance, in total darkness
Or do we wake to the light of the way

How do we observe Christ’s sacrifice
In perfect faith, in loving hope
He who died to give us life
How do we remember the empty tomb
In celebration, with complete trust
His return we wait for soon

How do we see the resurrection
In future hope, with joy we see
The Kingdom come – it fill our vision

Who has reached out and touched our lives
Made us stop to question, why?
How have we touched the lives of others
Our loving sisters and caring brothers?

Who did show us from the world to be separate
So we were no longer desolate?
Are we living lives that are an example
Showing how the Truth is completely ample

Foreign leaders of old were moved to worship
The God who gat them kingship
They learned the God rules in the kingdom of men
To fulfill His purpose now and then

We must stand up for the truth of the Word
But in a manner that will be heard
Always with positive, humble communication
Showing others the way to salvation

Christ was the best at touching all
Opening ears and hearts to the call
He continues to touch us in this present day
The best example to follow the Way

So we must follow always to do God’s will
Strengthening others to be strong still

my contribution to life's little sayings

In a previous post I discussed the profoundness of the Hiku. Well the Asians also liked to expound little life proverbs (other culturs as well). So from the maze of my thinking, feeling and general crazy outlook on the world here are some of my life proverbs/little sayings....

What is a book?
A book is purely a view of life
Tic ‘78

God’s gifts to us are all around,
In nature’s sights and nature’s sounds.
Tic ‘81

Joy is not something that just happens,
One has to take the time to create it.
Tic ‘82

All I touch and all I see
Is only part of what God gives to me!
Tic ‘83
A drop of sunshine
Lets the smiles come through
Tic ‘84

One should be sure
To keep thoughts pure
Tic ‘84

Feelings have seen
What might have been
Tic ‘84

Kind little thoughts
Can bring big happy smiles
Tic ‘84

Listen to what God says
In the events of each day
Tic ‘84

A day is what you make of it
If you stand or if you sit
Tic ‘84

Oh what a day!
What more can I say?
Tic ‘85

Days away
Will come death
Let us pray
That we will find rest
Tic ‘86

Come to the end
Don’t follow the trend
Let pride unbend
With the truth blend
Tic ‘86

That is the way I feel
I certainly cannot be real!
Tic ‘86

Go away – thoughts
Do not stray – mind
Tic ‘87

Life is a question being answered
Tic ‘91

I guess my life views became a little more wordy in the last ten years - maybe I need to meditate just a little more....

Contemplating the New Year

Wow already 2012 - have to remember to put that at the end of my scribblings for this year! Well I stated the year off with a little downer of contemplation, I think the poem itself explains a lot if not all as to how my muddled mind works - enjoy

Contemplating

Contemplating the day of extreme slowness
Fighting off sense of overwhelming sadness
Emotions are swinging to the left and then right
Feel the need for hugging, then to start a fight

Thinking I am extremely board or going crazy
Maybe making up excuses for being very lazy
New Year has started; need to be making a change
Different attitude, stop being insanely strange

A Morning Most Would Rather Forget

It was one of the coldest mornings we have had so far. The wind was blowing just making it feel that much colder. I get up and leave the house before the sun rises and so had to start the car and scrape all the ice of the car windows in the dark - time consuming but then the car is toasty warm when I get back into it...Ah! But this time I sit in the drivers seat, look at the dashboard counsel and see the 'tire light' on...Wind up the flashlight...well I'll let this poem I wrote about the morning explain...

My Morning 12/06/11

Out the door in the early morn
Slip and slide down the icy stairs
Outside kitty is looking so forlorn
Amble out to the car with great care

Start the engine, turn on the heat
Mittens on to keep hands cozy
Scrape the ice left by the sleet
Settle in, tire pressure light, opsy daisy!

Wound the flashlight up to see
That the front tire is very flat
Oh no! Disbelieve, ‘how can this be?’
Back to the house past the sad cat

E-mail work – ‘going to be late’
Pass the time until daylight
Wind makes outside a miserable state
Air the tire – at Firestone things made right
Tic ‘2011

So instead of forgetting this morning, I have immortalized it into poetry

My Birthday update of my blog

Just published two other new posts but thought, on my birthday, I would update with a complilation on some of the Exhortation poems I have done recently....enjoy

(Exhortation by Bro. Ethan Bearden)

As a little child
To seek out the ‘Why’
From Truth do not hide
Eager to please God on high

As a little one
To hear openly to instruction
Knowing the love of the Son
Believing the Word with conviction

A child willingly
With whole heart and mind
Gives love unconditionally
May these things with us find
Tic ‘2011

(Exhortation by Bro. John Banta)

A holy nation was brought to birth
During a time in foreign land
The natives feared this people’s worth
So came down on them with slaver hands

God had promised the nation’s growth
No matter how they were oppressed
Provided Moses to lead them forth
Freedom from Eygpt, Israel was blessed

Yahweh has continued to guide the Jews
Fulfilling promises made to their Fathers
They are His people – though now beleivers few
Witnesses to all – God’s purpose not faltered

When Christ returns to set up God’s kingdom
The Israelites gathered back to their Creator
Then with gladness – rejoice those of wisdom
For our saviour, guide and protector
Tic ‘2011

(Exhortation by Bro. Jeremiah Hefner)

When we walk upon the path of life
We need the Word of God as our guide
The knowledge there to understand strife
Seek God’s wisdom so in His arms to hide

For true repentance – forgiveness attain
We need to change our way – do God’s will
Read daily the Word, pray and pray again
Trust fully in the LORD, He will comfort us still

To continue on the straight and narrow way
We need to seek forgiveness, grace from on high
Write God’s Word in our hearts every day
Then in His kingdom, peace, joy – no longer die
Tic ‘2011

(Exhortation by Bro. David Bearden – Honor)

Honor our Father for all He provides
Honor Him in His corrections in our daily lives
Honor the Creator for each breath you take
Honor Him with love, for His glory’s sake
Honor the Almighty in all He commands
Honor Him when in His Truth you stand
Honor our Alpha and Omega, our beginning and end
Honor Him for all the love He extends
Honor the Father for the gift of His Son
Honor Him, praise Him, follow Him, until His Kingdom comes
Tic ‘2011

We are all joined as one body
One common faith, we all share
One goal ahead – give God the glory
We work together for the kingdom prepare

We all come from different backgrounds
Some raised from birth with the scriptures
Some only recently God’s word have found
We come together to teach of our protector

We all need to live as one in mind
All of our many talents used for praise
All of our love to God – others do find
We work together until the last days
 Tic ‘2011

(Exhortation by Bro. Adam Booker – Forgiveness)

We gather each week to be forgiveness
We look for the grace which God provides
We continually stuble, turn to sin with quickness
And from our short comings we often hide

We need to forgive, not give our vengance
We must see the peace forgiveness gives
We learn through forgiveness endless patience
And see clearly the joy ahead where faithful live

Christ forgave and asked forgiveness
For those who condemned Him, put Him to death
Through love – Christ died with willingness
That all faithful would have hope in everlasting health
Tic ‘2011

Wisdom gained with humble heart
Then the ways of God one will take part
When wisdom puffeth up the mind
Then kindness, understanding is hard to find

Wisdome builds understanding in life
Experience learning through all our strife
When wisdom expands to God our reverance
Expressing our belief in His love and presence

Wisdom comes when giving all to Godly trust
Making clear the vision of His grace for us
Wisdom shown in the value of Christ’s sacrifice
Giving us hope – His life was the price
Tic ‘2011

The last poem was based on the last exhortation given by a beloved Brother - George Brown, before he fell asleep in th Lord and is now awaiting the resurection at the return of Christ Jesus to set up God's Kingdom on earth.
